Directory - Organization Overview

The Directory/Organization Menu provides the tools to manage group and organization relationships within a site.  To access the Directory/Organization section, select it from the Main Menu in the lower pane of the left panel.

The cairs.net administrator determines your site’s organizations level numbers and level names and adds them into cairs.net through the System Admin menu.  Then, once these level numbers and names are in cairs.net, you can add the actual organization records into the correct levels from the Organizations menu.  For example, if your cairs.net administrator gives atop-level organization a level number of ‘1’ and a level name of ‘Department’, when you add a top-level organization called ‘Accounting’, cairs.net automatically gives the ‘Accounting’ organization a level number of ‘1’ and a level name of ‘Department.’

The three main organization categories are:

1.       Root: (top level) Organization: a Root Organization is top-level, meaning it’s a parent to other organizations.  Assign a Root Organization the highest organization level number and name.

2.       Child Organization: a Child Organization is subordinate to another organization.  A Child Organization always belongs to another organization and is one level lower than the organization to which it belongs.  You can add a child to a root, a peer, or another Child Organization.

3.       Peer Organization: a Peer Organization is at the same level as the organization to which it is associated.  In other words, a Peer Organization is like a sister to the associated organization.  For example, a Peer to a Root Organization is also a top-level organization.  A Peer to a Child Organization is also a subordinate organization.  A Peer Organization takes the same organization level number and level name as the organization to which it is a peer.

You must first add the Root (or top-level/parent) Organization and then its Peer and/or children organizations.  The Organizations list, which opens to the right when you enter the Organizations menu, displays the root organizations.

To view the Peer or Child Organizations of a Root Organization within the Organizations list, click the organization name.  Within the top pane, the complete organization displays.

In addition to the functionality of an organization chart, the Organizations Menu is used for grouping and organizing other cairs.net network assets.  Subscribers (Subscriber Menu), set devices (Configured Items Menu), account numbers (Accounting Menu), and other equipment and services can be grouped and viewed based on their respective organizations.  Organizations can also be setup as cost centers for billing.  Organization ribbon buttons are found throughout the cairs.net system.
